The name of the festival may be Hosay, but the name of the song is Hoosay. It is a play on the words "who say" (Who says) as well as the festival, a juxtaposition of the forced ignorance that refused to let Trinidad think that we could push our people to something like that, and the religion of the group who attempted to overthrow the government, killing masses of people in the process. Calypso does that, plays on words to give them multiple meanings in the telling of the story. Lyrical poetry.

Richie, that word is PIQUANT and NOT pickong!

The name of the festival is actually Hussein and NOT Hosay! Just like it is Extempore and NOT Extempo! Trinis have a nasty habit of chopping up their words to suit them.

The Trini version of the "1990" release still tears me up. Amazing song writer.......a true griot.
Genius pure genius
One of the most beautiful songs ever song by a Trinidadian. Thank you David Rudder for paying homage to the past, and educating the present through the harmony of calypso. Keep this art form alive brother.

THe KIng giving a Beautiful Narrative about the Hosay Observance.
The beginning of this song gives me chills. "Wear something red was the popular cry, and like the pavement and street they were filled with envy. Because by morning light they were covered with our blood."
