I got a box of 4 wooden block puzzles for Christmas 2011. I was told, 6-burr, the simplest one took a family friend, 6 months to put it back together.

In the box, was a sheet of paper with hand drawn pictures that I could not understand. My father-in-law, had built a larger model of this puzzle before. So he had pictures of how to put it back together. I just felt the still pictures lacked.

So, here's my approach.

First, I took pictures of each piece as it was removed. I had to do this a few times as the puzzle tends to collapse after removing two to three pieces. With the pictures, I was able to orient the pieces for re-assembly.

If you're about to watch this video, there ought to be more videos on the youtube side bar. The authors show steps of how to solve this puzzle taken with a camera and the author's hands.

I decided to try out the latest version of Blender (v2.61) to create a model of each of the six wooden blocks and do what could not be done with the real thing, like suspend it in the air, explode it (you wouldn't be able to do this with the real puzzle as it is locked together) and rotate it all around.

My transitions are a bit too quick in some places, but I'm happy I finally got this video done. The modeling and animation, with all the mistakes and re-takes took over 24 hours. I'll do a lot better in the subsequent puzzles.

Supposedly, there are other ways to lock the pieces together, but I have not figured those out yet. There are defintely more ways to order the assembly or dis-assembly, but the pieces remain in the same orientation relative to each other.

Hope this video helps but not rob you of the opportunity to drill your mind and patience in solving the puzzle on your own. On the other hand, if you think this is easy, try solving it blind-folded.
