Andrew Nikiforuk's new book, Slick Water - Fracking and One Insider's Stand Against the World's Most Powerful Industry, was launched in the community of Rosebud, Alberta on September 12, 2015, a condensed version of which is presented here (one hour and 15 minutes).
EnCana, a trans-national energy company headquartered in Alberta, fracked and contaminated the fresh water aquifers that supply the community with drinking water. The Insider has an ongoing lawsuit against the company, Alberta's energy regulator and Environment Ministry (www.ernstversusencana.ca).
More clips from Nikiforuk's book launch tour to come.
This video was published on October 3, 2015, and was filmed, edited and produced by Will Koop. He is the Coordinator of the B.C. Tap Water Alliance (www.bctwa.org). Travel, equipment rentals, and related expenses for the production of this video were self-financed.
The initial footage shows Andrew Nikiforuk walking with Jessica Ernst and dogs, Chapman, Asher and Gem, along the old Rosebud River by Jessica's home just minutes before the book launch event. The red building seen on the valley top is the community's new water reservoir that replaced the original when it was destroyed in an explosion caused by an "accumulation of gases" after Encana frac'd Rosebud's drinking water aquifers.
