After finishing my Spherebot v1, I realized I did not leave a lot of room for the pen to move back and forth. Well, that and about 10 other things. Easter is coming soon, so over St. Patrick's Day weekend, I returned to the now clean benches and work areas in the basement and fixed the flaws.

Except for the 15cm sides, I guessed a lot at where things go. I built the sides first and assembled them with the rods. Then I put the left motor in. I knew the second motor should be at the same height as the first, but don't remember measuring them. The back motor is mounted to a piece that slides over the rods and is held in place by set screws. I did that so I can move it for calibration. The pen holder is mounted on the motor shaft with a set screw and I just eyeballed where I should drill the hole for the pen. Overall, I was just lucky on a lot of things.

The hardest thing to get right was the tension on the spring balanced with length of the left rod. A nut on the outside of the walls allows me to adjust the space between the 2 rods. If the rods are too tight with too little tension on the spring, it will pop the sphere out when turning. If they are too far apart, then the sphere might stop turning briefly and screw up the drawing. I think I might invest in some lock nuts and washers soon.

One thing I wasn't expecting was gcode errors. I noticed certain designs I made with Inkscape and exported using the unicorn GCode exporter always crashed at the same spot. With a little tweaking they would work, but I have to get the egg designs done and tested soon so we are ready to go.

https://github.com/zaggo/SphereBot for the Arduino code. Thanks, Zaggo!

http://digitalchad.com/Pages/SphereBo... is where I am starting to pull together my documentation. IfI ever post my C# WinForm code, it will be there. Or at least a link to it will be there.
