Canada missed out on USA 1994 by a whisker, with only one automatic spot available for the whole region. The following year however they played 5 friendlies in 9 days against teams that had made the World Cup The NASL/1986 World Cup veterans like Mitchell, Sweeney and Valentine retired following the qualifying campaign, leaving a very different looking squad left. Add in injuries to Bunbury and Peschisolido following their European seasons to make even a greater difference. Neverthless in the first two games Canada managed a couple of draws - 1-1 against Morrocco and stunningly, a 1-1 draw against Brazil who would go on to actually win the World Cup. Eddie Berdusco provided the magical moment for Canada.
