Amtrak's eastbound Southwest Chief as it makes its way out of Las Vegas, NM. It is now conitnuing on to Raton, NM and all points east. This was my last shot after a long day of chasing this train, and the engineer gives me a nice horn salute as the train passes by the camera. The train is about 20 miles northeast of Las Vegas, and is running approximately 1 hour late. There are two locomoties powering today's eastbound Chief, both are P42s. #15 leading with #45 trailing. Recorded on February 18, 2012.
