The World Bank Water and Sanitation Program's product is knowledge, and supporting governments in building and implementing sound water and sanitation policies is possible only when that knowledge is effectively communicated to stakeholders. During the "Towards Evidence-Based Decisions: Do We Need Better Research or Better Policy?" session at the UNC Water and Health Conference in October 2011, Water and Sanitation Program Manager Jaehyang So shared lessons on how research can influence good policy decisions. In Part 1, she discusses the WSP's role and why it's important for researchers to choose appropriate topics, including the critical topics of scale and sustainability.
