Developed by Narrative 4, story sharing is a practice that brings together people from different backgrounds to “build empathy, shatter stereotypes and break down barriers.” This is one of several strategies Cradle Cincinnati is implementing to address implicit bias in prenatal care settings.
In story sharing, women and prenatal care providers actively listen to one another as they exchange personal stories one-on-one; they then share their partner’s story in a group setting. Such intimate conversations, and the act of telling another’s story, helps participants better understand one another outside their traditional roles (i.e. patient and medical professional).
