Jeannie Van Wyk is a 49 year old woman from Roodepoort in Gauteng, she is a mother of two son's.
When she was preparing for work early one morning she tried to get up from the bed and realized that she had trouble walking. She immediately went to her doctor to explain what her problem was, whereby she was sent for a mammogram. She was told to go for further tests. She went for a biopsy the following day, soon after that, the doctor informed her that she had breast cancer.
Jeannie began her chemotherapy in March 2010. "The first two months were the worst..." she says, but her body adapted to the chemo as the months went by. Jeannie received four weeks of radiation treatment where her hospital later awarded her with a certificate for the completion of her radiation therapy and for her strength, courage and determination. For those four weeks she received radiation every day. The doctors advised her to get a double mastectomy and after a lot of prayers by herself and her family, she had the operation in December 2010.
Jeannie says that treatments are very expensive. Her medical aid does not cover most of her treatment and that is why she is so thankful to Platinum Life because they helped her tremendously when it came to finances for her treatment. She believes that she made the right choice by taking out a policy.
"Platinum Life is the best. You were there when I needed help and not only are they involved with your policy but ass well as your well-being." she says. Jeannie also says that there came a moment when she realized that someone cares for her out there when Platinum Life kept calling her to check on her health.
After Jeannie was diagnosed with breast cancer she had to be at the doctor every second week, and she had to go to the hospital every day. At that time they did not have a fully functional motor vehicle. So when her payout was received she was able to buy a car in order to make it easier for her to be driven to and from the doctor. The rest of the money she used to settle all the medical bills.
Her advice to women out there who strongly believe that they can never get cancer, is that they should not take cancer lightly. If they feel pain in their bodies then they should consult a doctor, it can only extend your life, as it is with her case. Jeannie also says that taking out a Platinum Life policy can only make it easier.
