Einojuhani Rautavaara's Third Symphony is clearly inspired by Anton Bruckner's Fourth. It begins with the same motif over quiet strings and bird calls, uses the same orchestration with four Wagner Tubas but no cymbals, has a long limbed quality with monumental brass climaxes, and the tempi are in German rather than Italian.
Royal Scottish National orchestra, conducted by Hannu Lintu.
