"I'm Kay Granger. I got an email from a long-time constituent this week and she said her son - I've met her son - is working in the wind power industry. He's been there for three years. He leaves, is gone for eight to ten weeks, comes home to be with his family for a week and then goes back. He was laid off in December. His employer said 'I have to lay you off but you'll be hired back in March.' Well, it's July and he hasn't been hired back. She said to me 'Kay, my son doesn't want unemployment benefits, he doesn't want to stay home, and he wants to work. He wants to go where the work is and he wants to support his family.' She asked me, 'I want to know why the trillions of dollars that were spent on putting people back to work didn't put them back to work. Unemployment is around ten percent. This is killing our country. What's your answer?' I have to say to her 'Yes, the money was spent but it didn't bring the jobs. We should be putting people back to work, let them support their families and put our country back to work."
