shane3x discusses the differences and similarities between the M14 and the Fal for Call of Duty: Black Ops Multiplayer. The video is game play from combat training, it's purpose of it is just to keep you entertained while I talk but I use the M14 until 3500 points are obtained and then the FAL until the game ends.

While the differences are barely noticable I would recommend the M14 over the Fal since the recoil is more predictable and vertical recoil is definitely better then horizontal recoil. Also the grip makes the recoil on the M14 essentially non existant.

There hasn't been any reports of unusual facts yet such as one in MW2 where the Holo sight increased the Fal's minimum damage by 5. If anything does appear I will revisit my recommmendation.

Damage: Equal at 2 to 3 shots (50-40) - M14 (1.5 head Multiplier) Fal (1.4 Head Multiplier)

Fire Rate: As fast as you can click (Capped at 625 RPM)

Reload when empty: Fal (3.1s) M14 (3.45s)

Reload when not empty: M14 (2.4s) Fal (2.5s)

Recoil: M14 (Generally upwards) Fal (Generally between the left and top sides)

Range: Equal

Attachments: Grip (M14 Unique), Dual Mag (Fal Unique)

Jamming: Whether it is due the fire rate or because of performance issues (Game or lag) these weapons will infrequently jam and take a short amount of time (1 to 2 seconds average) before being able to fire again. Usually only a problem when engaging multiple enemies which requires constant firing. Will update if this gets fixed but I've only had it happen twice so far.

I read that it could also be to prevent modded controllers from abusing it, which I don't see the point when the guns have a max fire rate. The PC version is also affected by this problem due to it being a console port.
