Efficient Data Transfers: Understanding the Cell Radio

In the resource constrained environment of mobile phone development, creating apps that use the battery efficiently is absolutely critical. No matter how useful your app is, it's a lot less useful if it's running on a device that's run out of battery.

This is the first in a series of DevBytes created to help you improve the battery efficiency of your apps. It explains the state machine used in smartphone cell radios, and how understanding its behavior will help you optimize the timing of your data transfers to make your app more battery efficient.
