Almost 50 people have been killed in a wave of bombings across Iraq.

Eight cities were hit in the bloodiest attacks in a month, which appeared to target police and Shia pilgrims.

It comes just a week before an Arab League meeting to be held in the capital, Baghdad, where a major government building was also hit in the bombings.

Al Jazeera's Caroline Malone reports.
