Fr. Gerald Robinson, a Roman Catholic priest from Toledo convicted of killing Sister Margaret Ann Pahl, appeared by video in Lucas County Common Pleas Court, the first time he's been seen publicly since his 2006 conviction.

The Rev. Robinson sat impassively Friday during the hearing his time it is a question of whether an evidentiary hearing should be held for Robinson. His appeals council claims there is evidence that was never presented at the priest's trial four years ago which could prove his innocence.

Fr. Robinson watched from a video monitor as attorneys argued for two hours about whether the hearing should even take place.

The 72-year-old Robinson is being held in Hocking Correctional Facility in southern Ohio. He was convicted of killing of Sister Pahl, whose body was found Easter weekend 1980 in Mercy Hospital where both worked.

Church historians have said it's the only documented case of a Catholic priest killing a nun.

Sister Pahl was 72 when Robinson killed her.

His attorney contends evidence never presented during Robinson's 2006 trial proves Sister Pahl was murdered, not by Robinson but the other priest who served Mercy Hospital where Sister Pahl's body was discovered 26 years ago.
