Alternative Breaks are an opportunity for students to spend college breaks traveling to national and international destinations to participate in community service, explore exciting places and make new friends! All trips are led and planned by students so there are always new projects and locales.

Available programs include shorter trips during Fall Break and Spring Break and longer trips during Maymester. Students have traveled in the United States from coast to coast including California, Florida and North Carolina, as well as to international destinations including Greece, Ireland, Costa Rica, Peru and the Dominican Republic.

Students are able to bring their majors into focus as they collaborate with other students and their diverse academic interests. Students take part in group discussions, written reflections and other exercises to challenge their thinking and gain insight into their service experience.

For more information, please stop by the Center for Civic Engagement in Lightsey, room 203 or email: cofc.alternativebreak@gmail.com.
