Forget about Uggie, the London Dungeon today opened its doors to a host of scuttling furry guests as it auditioned some of the UK's most amazing rodents. The attraction put the 'pests' to the test in the hope of finding the latest animal acting sensation to win a starring role in its newest show Rat Walk.
Half a dozen rats showcased their astounding performance skills, from tightrope walking to basketball, but only one could be rewarded with a career and home at the London Dungeon.
Would it be:
Rusty the tightrope walking rat. Now in his 'teenage' rat years, this intrepid youngster dares to face a miniature tightrope.
Ruby the basketball playing rat. This agile one year old pale brown rat pushes a ball down a track before slam-dunking it into a basketball hoop.
Rita the gym rat. A multi-talented rodent, slight and speedy Rita will jump through hoops, over platforms until she reaches the number one podium.
Rocky the up and down rat. Don't let his size fool you, this large black rat has nimble feet and enjoys life's ups and downs playing on his seesaw.
Robson and Romone, the double act. This pair team up in high vis vests as Robson takes the handles of a toy pneumatic drill and once the work is done 'lazy' Romone puts his paws up and sips his 'cup of joe'.
And the winner was....Robson
The judging panel, including the Dungeon's Rat Catcher and the attraction's Performance Manager Richard Quincey, were faced with the challenge of picking between the talented bunch. While all the rodents had an eminent acting pedigree, with ancestors including Jasper who made his first appearance in Sweeny Todd, Ludo who scuttled around on the set of Hot Fuzz and also Nancy who starred in BBC1 drama Sherlock, the judges unanimously crowned Robson the top rat.
