Cybrid Collage & Drawing Video 2014 (Cybrid Video 4 PART 2) From the Polyopia Play Rehearsal Series Reis Studio, Long Island City (Queens) NY Featuring Improvised Performance Rehearsals by Geraldo Mercado (August 2014) Concept: Derek Brueckner Camera and Editing (iMovie): Derek Brueckner Chestar Canuck Productions 2014 Video 2 min 47 sec Shorter Version Viewed Here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JLHi...
Artist Statement This research and video work presented originated during a 8-week summer residency in New York (July & August 2014) where a document camera/animation stand was built and designed. Rough video animations were generated blurring corporeal improvisations, performance rehearsals, demos, kinetic pictorial space, painting, art materiality and process. The most recent work presented as part of this body or work explores an accumulation and accretion of time and materials referencing information overloads and persistent corporeal endurance layered within consumerism, detritus art materials, memory and cybernetic culture all concluding into an obsessive automatic drawing and collage performance.
This posted video work continues the use of installation, improvised rehearsals and demos, I seek to expand the threshold connections between physical and digital processes and further explore dialectics between collage, painting, drawing and time-based practices. Distinctions of segregation and segmentation within this current work are challenged, linking spaces between the isolated forms of practice, production and performance. Ultimately the Cyrbid video work collectively combines rehearsal performances, video and animations with painting and drawing.
