Epilepsy can be challenging on its own, but when coupled with a developmental or intellectual disability, a host of additional challenges can occur. Dr. Iqbal Allarakhia, a pediatric epileptologist with St. John Providence Health System, reviews some of the common developmental disabilities associated with epilepsy and some of the epilepsy syndromes associated with intellectual disability. He also discusses special treatment considerations, educational considerations, and how to prepare for adulthood.
