People have wondered about how the universe came in to existence or by what laws it operates ever since we started living in caves. In this first part, the background to the physics discoveries that lead to modern physics are discussed in simple terms and the places where physics went wrong are highlighted. The essential nature of the universe is arrived at in preparation for proceeding to make a universe.
