Excerpts from a conversation with Isabelle de Maison Rouge on 9th November 2011 as part of G. Roland Biermann's solo exhibition Ophelia at Goethe-Institut Paris (20 October - 17 November 2011).

'In Ophelia, Biermann takes a particular interest in exploring the contrapuntal relationship between beauty, transience and death, through a delicately crafted set of warholian photographic representations of plastic carrier bags floating in a sea of used engine oil. ... The use of oil and its derivatives, becomes a metaphor for the cyclical and antagonistic nature of matter and thought, constantly in a state of flux and mutation.'
