Plymouth was born to compete with the low-price Ford and Chevy. By 1950, Plymouths were not stylish but stodgy looking. Square boxy design didn't enhance likeability or sales. But wait, whats this? The Special Deluxe model was the top of the Plymouth line and it added some redeeming refinement. All Plymouths were powered with a L-head, 218 cid engine that produced 97 horses. Not really much for power but the added features that made this boxy looking car look more refined was the special upgraded interior, sun visor, chrome trim that ran across the bottom of the car and ended with a good looking gravel guard. Full wheel covers, fender skirts, and bumper guards were another feature along with radio and heater. Safe-Guard brakes and Safety Rim wheels were standard. 99,361 Special Deluxe club coupes were produced this year so they did sell. What we have here is a low priced car that was gussied up to provide more value to a boxy, stodgy looking car. Thanks very much for viewing this 1950 Plymouth Special Deluxe Club Coupe.
