Mark O'Connor, Yo-Yo Ma and Edgar Meyer performing at the 53rd Presidential Inaugural Gala, January 19,1997.

In her introduction, Candice Bergen speaks to the national television audience about Mark O'Connor's Irish ancestry as well as Yo-Yo Ma's Chinese ancestry and how they have come together to perform music for the top classical album of the year; "Appalachia Waltz."

The Trio of Edgar Meyer, Yo-Yo Ma and Mark O'Connor chose "College Hornpipe" to perform for President William Jefferson Clinton's inaugural, as the 42nd President of the United States. As the string virtuosos O'Connor, Ma and Meyer conclude their piece, President Clinton punches the air in his enthusiasm for the music and the performance. He became a big fan of O'Connor's "Appalachia Waltz" citing it as one of the best representations of music from America in recent times.

Note: College Hornpipe in Bb, is a fiddle tune popularized by both Mark O'Connor and his own teacher/mentor Benny Thomasson. It became a standard in folk music circles from their rendition. Years later, Mr. O'Connor showed it to Ma and Meyer and together they crafted it into a String Trio.
