In the 1960s, William Anastasi was a pioneer of conceptual art in New York, and he continues to be a significant practicing artist. He has worked closely with, and influenced, some of the major figures of late-twentieth-century art, yet he hasn't received the kind of critical attention that he's certainly due. Anastasi was extremely generous with his time, and we spent an afternoon talking about his work and his friendships with other New York artists during the 1960s and '70s.
