James Kalm treks back to Chelsea to catch some exhibitions of interest that were missed during the season opener. The work of Deborah Kass mingles elements of Pop Art, Post Painterly Abstraction and sixties graphic design. The sunny surfaces fain optimism yet deeper anxieties are palpable. Shannon Lucy paints images that seem like remnants from a Victorian past. Mister Lonely is the title of the film recently premiering at Cannes from which Brent Stewart took still photos of the actors. He also worked on James Clauer's documentary Aluminum Fowl (2006). Matthew Blackwell is a painter's painter. His seething canvases capture aspects of a downwardly mobile American culture with an urgent wit. Cameo appetence by Stephen Maine
