Ron Strickland, long distance hiker and author, reveals how he invented the 1,200 mile Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail (PNT). First conceived by Ron in 1970, the Trail extends west from Glacier National Park to the Pacific Ocean.

Pathfinder is Ron's thru-hiking trail name. He has hiked thousands of trail miles, completing the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), the New England Trail (NET) and creating and hiking the Pacific Nothwest Trail (PNT). Along the way he has hiked hundreds of miles on other major trails including the Appalachian Trail (AT), the North Country Trail (NCT), and the Long Trail (LT).

Pathfinder is also the tile of Ron's recent book a collection of stories about Ron's hiking adventures, including his marriage proposal to his girlfriend while lying on the ice of Walden Pond. Pathfinder: Blazing A New Wilderness Trail In Modern America is inspiration.

In 1996 Ron proposed the 7,700 mile Sea to Sea Route combining several existing long distance trails to form a transcontinental trail. In 2004-2005 Andrew Skurka was the first to thru-hike the Sea to Sea route from the Atlantic Ocean at the Mouth of the St. Lawrence River, Canada to Cape Alava, Washington State.

For beautiful day hikes, section hikes or to hike the entire PNT, Ron's Pacific Northwest Trail Guide book is an invaluable resource. For more information on the PNT: http://www.PNT.org
