According to the website I checked beforehand, the solar eclipse at Clayton, Idaho, was to begin this morning at 10:13.00 AM MDT. I stationed myself on a hillside about 5 miles away and sure enough it began as predicted, a black line in the upper right corner of the sun. The total eclipse didn't begin until 11:29:13, and at that spot, it lasted for 2 m 7 s. I was amazed at how long it took for the sky to darken even with the sun mostly covered, and how cold it got once the moon was fully blocking it. Even though I was ready for it and knew what in general to expect, I still found it awe-inspiring. I'm glad I drove down to see it. I very nearly talked myself out of it. Next time I hear that voice in my head, the one that says, it's not worth doing something, I am going to ignore it.
