IBM Visual Analytics experts Graham Wills, IBM Rave Chief Architect and Frank Van Ham, IBM Master Inventor and Visualization Expert at the 2012 IBM Information On Demand conference sat down to discuss the indispensability of visualization. Visualization is highlighted as an empowering technology by providing context to raw data that allows for the discovery of insight and facilitates action. The discussion highlights trends in analytics, such as Big Data. Common bar charts cannot meet the needs presented by Big Data, including the variety and speed of the data. Visualizations helps us go beyond and look at specific instances or scenarios within the data. Also discussed is IBM Rapidly Adaptive Visualization Engine (Rave), a flexible and extensible language based visualization engine, that allows the business user to start with data and build a visualization that provides the most insight from that data and not allow the available visualization types to be force fit to the data.
