Hello, my name if Fred Dowd president of Technology Container located in Desoto TX.

I’m here to help you analyze whether or not your company can utilize an innovative new technology that will help you drive down your distribution packaging costs and reduce your environmental footprint in a meaningful way through reusable distribution packaging technology.

If you can answer these three simple questions:

1. Can you identify a reusable loop where you can get the boxes back from the field?
2. Can you get them back in an easy and cost effective manner?
3. Can you reuse the box at least once a month or about 12 times a year to get a return on investment?

If you can answer yes to these three questions then Technology Container can help you engineer a custom designed box that has easy fold features which will do a number of things for you as well.

Easy fold allows you to streamline your packing operations eliminating the previously necessary time, material and labor associated with carton erection.

We can do any number of different style tops – Velcro, mechanical and there are different design boxes for different applications where the top is custom engineered to your specific packing line as to what works best.

Technology Container invented this technology about 20 years ago. We are the world’s largest plastic box manufacturer – we have the only inline process – and inline means that in one manufacturing step – we start with a sheet – we print, die cut, fold and glue the box all in one high-speed operation.

This allows us to service very large systems on a timely basis. Technology Container is also vertically integrated. We start with resin, we extrude our own sheet, we take that sheet and we process it in one high-speed operation so that when large companies from around the world contact us and have a need for boxes TCC can turn around the order on a timely basis. We are a worldwide provider – even though we are located in Texas we ship product all over Europe, Latin America, South America, and as far away as the Far East.

Because these boxes are reusable 3 – 500 cycles, customers have found that they can invest in the carton and add features that are cost prohibitive in paper cartons. For example customers can invest in RFID tags or Velcro closures because they get the return on investment. The added fifty cents or so to put these features on the box, divided by 3 – 500 cycles means it’s about a penny or two a turn depending on the whistles and bells that you add to the box.

We also have non-stick placards that we can put on the box to make your UPC code labels peel off easily.

So there are a number of things that we can do to help the utility of the box for your manufacturing operation and also on the customer side. As far as the RFID tags go they help you passively track the box as it leaves the factory and as it returns from the field it automatically debits and credit the system and allows the customer to identify how many boxes they have in the system and where those boxes are located for easy tracking purposes.

Velcro closures versus a mechanical closure is faster and is less repetitive motions. We can do mechanical locks as well on the same carton so that if the Velcro fails for any reason customer still has the option to mechanically close the top which is a little less money than the Velcro closures.

So because these boxes last so long their product features can be built into them that would normally not be available in a paper system.

The tooling costs are materially different between us and injection molded technology. Injection molded technology requires long lead times and very expensive molds that cost anywhere from $100,000 to half a million dollars for a multi cavity mold.

Technology Containers’ tooling is a fast rotary cutting die that costs about $2,500 and the associated printing plates which could be another $1,000 - $1,500 to give you exactly what you want from design and the kind of copy you want printed on the side of the box. So for about a $3,000 - $5,000 tooling cost we can turn around a project, once the design is approved, in about 3-5 weeks. This gives you a very fast turn around for your boxes to be delivered and put into production on your floor.

Technology Container is a global supplier – we ship product all over the world and even though we’re located in Desoto Texas, TCC can cost effectively manufacture boxes and get them to your plant no matter where you are on the planet. With the additional cost of freight of about 25 or 30 cents to get the box to its final destination divided by 3 – 500 distribution cycles really has no cost impact on the carton getting it to your floor and letting it go to work for you...
