Real time 2D plate tectonics simulation running on Pentium 4 CPU and 1 GB RAM. The simulation splits the lithosprehe into random plates and moves them around. Colliding continents are merged together and old oceanic crust subducts under lighter material. The result is a map with coastal mountain ranges, island chains and thick mid-continental mountain belts.

The simulation is part of my Bachelor of Engineering thesis in Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, Helsinki, Finland. The thesis is freely downloadable from http://urn.fi/URN:NBN:fi:amk-20120402... . The related source code is downloadable under GNU v3 license from http://sourceforge.net/projects/platec/ .

Additionally, the simulator has been incorporated into Terasology project! For a screenshot, please see
