"It was never meant to have been. A wholly unnatural means of making the freakish synthesis was responsible for this and everything else. Created in a place without light and without principles, it was as much in need of eradication as were the creators who brought it into existence. And to whom was it designed for? And for what was its purpose? And all the genes, the drugs and the grafting; all the misery and suffering driven into it for the mere sake of it existing for a moment more; was that the justification they begged it was? And who was responsible? Surely it could not be science, a morally apathetic participant. Surely the Choprian "diabolical science" was indeed a non sequiter, a language used to infer that the utilities of science had a moral standing of their own. And again, who was responsible? Surely it was the men who utilized such powerful methods for their sadistic sport. But does the creature suffer now, a monster condemned to consume synthetic leaves coated as to appear ordinary behind the drapery of the natural world? Are we positioned to make such judgments?"
