[Video credits to Fremantle International] 80's week on American Idol. Jessica Sanchez sings Whitney Houston's How Will I Know, then duets with Joshua Ledet performing "I Knew You Were Waiting For Me." Pretty good week again for Jessica Sanchez. The judges pointed out the maturity in her voice, unbelievable for a 16-year old singer like her. Gwen Stefani gave her a special advice to be careful about her body movements, to try to stay away from lounge singer style movements while she is singing. Fair advise. I love Gwen Stefani.

The duet with Joshua Ledet was absolutely spotless, and it is good that they did not try to outsing each other. That would have been bad. They really merged their voices well. I still think that Joshua lacks a bit of control in his voice, that when he goes to higher notes, he is at the verge of shouting instead of belting at a fortesissimo. And he needs to be more intentional in developing his lower register and subdues. Jennifer alluded to a final, as he listened to this pair. That's not impossible, but I still think that Jessica will battle with either Colton or Philip in the finale.

I thought Colton Dixon's version of "Time After Time" was pretty smart, and that should wipe out the ideas that he is just a boyband singer. Goodness. He is nothing but a boyband singer, even if he looks like a boyband member because of his fashion style and his hair. Hey, he's young... and no, his voice is not thin either. Listen to his higher registers. You can also tell that he understands music when he was asked to slow it down and come in a few beats later, with the drums. Pretty good.
