Baseblack website quote: "We make images for big screens."
Sometimes we work on non-theatrical releases, but we're a bit picky.
Film-making is a collective experience, where a group of people get together to either tell or be told a story.
You the audience tune in to our Visual Effects whether you know it or not. You can watch our work at a big screen near you, or through samples on this site.
If it's here then you might have already seen it somewhere else. All work in progress is confidential, we can't leak it.
"We're lucky, this is what we do every day"
Sometimes people enter a place where they expect to be seduced into suspending disbelief. Film-makers often feel the need for something special to help tell a story.
Visual Effects (commonly shortened to VFX) are the various processes by which imagery is created and/or manipulated outside the context of a live action shoot. Visual effects often involve the integration of live-action footage and computer generated imagery (CGI) in order to create environments which look realistic, but would be dangerous, costly, or simply impossible to capture on film. They have become increasingly common in big-budget films, and have also recently become accessible to the low-budget and amateur filmmaker with the introduction of affordable animation and compositing software.
Computer Generated Images (or CGI) is what has come to the forefront of special effects technologies. CGI gives film-makers greater control, and allows many effects to be accomplished more safely and convincingly -- and even, as technology marches on, at lower costs. As a result, many optical and mechanical effects techniques have been superseded by CGI.
