In only her second year at Webb, but seventh year teaching, Jessica Fisher funded her trip with two awards for teachers: the Thompson and Vivian Webb Excellence in Teaching Award and the Laurence McMillin Excellence in Teaching Award.

Fisher, who teaches modern and ancient world history, said she chose to use the money for a trip to China because she had never been there before, and because she considers it one of the most important topics.

Throughout its history, Webb has been known for gathering together teachers who change students' lives. Webb continues to attract and retain teachers of the highest quality, and offers competitive faculty salaries and benefits, professional growth and enrichment opportunities, and rewards for excellence in teaching.

Thompson and Vivian Webb Excellence in Teaching Award was founded in 1988 by alumnus Edmund L. Piper ('43). This award is given to a full-time teacher in any one of their first three years at The Webb Schools, and it recognizes the teacher for making an outstanding impact on the schools.

The Laurence McMillin Excellence in Teaching Award is available to enthusiastic early career teachers who are eager to perfect their craft and be the best teacher they can be.  It is in honor of Webb master teacher Larry McMillin.
