now the Miami Heat and Dallas Mavericks will square off in the 2011 finals. Take a closer look at who will win the 2011 NBA Finals between the Heat and Mavericks.

For most of the 2010-2011 regular season, Heat coach Erik Spoelstra has been much-maligned. I cringed when he said that the Heat cried after a loss in 2011. However, the Heat have been very impressive in the 2011 NBA Playoffs. Still, I have to give Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle the edge in the finals. He was successful in the past as an NBA coach with the Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers. If the Heat cannot defeat the Mavericks in the 2011 NBA Finals on talent alone, coaching could give the Mavericks an edge over the Heat.

In what figures to be an evenly matched 2011 NBA Finals, the biggest advantage goes to the Mavericks bench. Clearly, Jason Terry(notes) and Jose Barea could start on many NBA teams in 2011. And Peja Stojakovic(notes) can still light it up behind the three-point line for the Mavericks. Much was made of Udonis Haslem's(notes) play in the 2011 conference finals for the Heat. But in his last two games against the Chicago Bulls, he shot 0-9 from the field. The Mavericks' bench could outscore the Heat's bench by over 100 points in the 2011 NBA Finals.

This factor depends on how experience is defined. If experience is time logged on an NBA floor, the 2011 Mavericks have the edge. If experience is having won the NBA Finals, the Heat have a slight edge. In 2006, Wade and the Heat defeated the Mavericks in the NBA Finals. For the Mavericks, Dirk Nowitzki(notes) and Jason Kidd(notes) have played in the NBA Finals but have never won. With as many NBA games as the Mavericks have played, I'm not sure Wade's NBA Finals win is a big factor for the Heat. But it could give the Heat an advantage over the Mavericks in the finals.

For most of the 2011 NBA Playoffs, the media has categorized the Mavericks as a one-man show. However, I think they are underestimating the likes of Shawn Marion(notes) and other Mavericks whom I alluded to earlier. Having said that, I don't think there is a more talented basketball team in the NBA or anywhere in the universe than the Heat. The other aspect of the Heat's talent is their ability to play great defense when it matters most. Both teams in the 2011 NBA Finals are highly talented. But Wade, LeBron James(notes) and sometimes Chris Bosh(notes) are incredible for the Heat.

Prediction: Miami Heat def. Dallas Mavericks (4-3)

I almost felt sorry for the Oklahoma City Thunder and Chicago Bulls in the 2011 conference finals. They were simply overwhelmed and overmatched by better NBA teams late in games. Dirk Nowitzki is unguardable in the 2011 NBA Playoffs. And LeBron James as an offensive threat, defender and clutch shooter is terrifying. The talent and experience that will be on display in the 2011 NBA Finals is a fan's dream.

The Heat will have homecourt advantage in the 2011 NBA Finals. I'm not sure that is a major hindrance for the experienced Mavericks. But an insane Heat crowd late in the 2011 finals could make Bosh, James and Wade white-hot. I am picking the Heat in the finals mainly on talent. And if they get anything from Haslem or Mike Miller(notes), the Mavericks are in trouble. This will be a great NBA Finals with the Heat defeating the Mavericks in seven.
