During the Senate Health, Education, Labor & Pensions Committee mark-up session, Senator Mitt Romney (R-Utah) spoke about his vote on the United States Food & Drug Administration Commissioner nominee Dr. Stephen Hahn:

I will vote in support of Dr. Hahn.

He committed under oath that he would use science and data to guide his decisions on youth vaping if confirmed, and I am counting on him to follow through on that commitment. If there is a conflict between what the science says and what the White House wants, I expect him to follow the science, as he promised to do.

Because of uncertainty from the Administration on this issue, I strongly urge the committee to act on legislation - whether it’s Senator Murkowski’s proposal, or my legislation with Senator Merkley, or some other solution.

Given the severity of this children’s health crisis, I hope to see progress in this committee before Dr. Hahn receives a final vote on the Senate floor.
