The Department of Plant Pathology and Microbiology is a center for research in the plant diseases and microbiology at National Taiwan University. Housed mainly in two buildings, including the Building #1 and Sino-African building, it is home to 18 faculty and associated faculty, 60 graduate students, 130 undergraduate majors, and several technical and administrative staff.

The Department is committed to basic research in plant pathology and microbiology as well as to application of plant protection and microbial resources. Students are for careers in microbiology, molecular biology, and related life sciences and in agriculture agencies and companies.

The Department of Plant Pathology and Microbiology at National Taiwan University was founded to confront the need for experts in plant pathology and microbiology. Studies of plant pathology have long been the major focuses of the research in the Department. The issue of plant quarantine has become increasingly important, especially since Taiwan acceded to the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2002. The students and research personnel in the department are well qualified for this responsibility. To further expand the research fields in the Department and also reveal the solid training of scientific personnel in microbiology, microbiology has accredited to the Department.
