Equity Diversity and Disability Service at Edith Cowan University

At the Equity Diversity and Disability Service, we help you out if you have a disability or a medical condition, which could affect your studies. This might include mental illness, ADHD, learning disabilities and chronic pain. We also provide support for students who are carers of a family member with a disability or medical condition.

Student Interview:
"The disability I had was temporary. I had a sports injury which made basic activities difficult. I thought I'd be out for six weeks but they helped me keep up with my studies and I was very grateful for that.

When you register with our service we put together a personalised assistance plan for you. We also liaise with other ECU staff and can organise other services such as note-taking to assist you. Sometimes it's a matter of providing access to specialised software and equipment, facilitating exceptions to assignments or arranging alternative exam conditions. The details of the disability are always kept confidential and are never passed on to other staff without your consent.

Student Interview:
"My friend has dyslexia and the Disability Services helped him arrange assistance from his lecturers and they also put in special arrangements for his exams. The assistance and understanding he received really made a difference.

We help students with a disability and can answer questions about their rights and responsibilities. We can explain their rights under the Equal Opportunity Act and the Disability Discrimination Act.
