Darcy (Matthew Macfayden) comes to Elizabeth (Keira Knightley) and asks her if she will still have him.

Jane Austen's perennially popular story of the game of love among the British upper classes returns to the screen in this polished film adaptation. The Bennets (Brenda Blethyn and Donald Sutherland) are the parents of five daughters near the close of the 18th century. Comfortable within their means but well short of rich, Mr. and Mrs. Bennet are looking for suitable husbands for their girls, and they are encouraged to learn that an eligible young bachelor from a wealthy family, Charles Bingley (Simon Woods), has moved into a nearby estate. Eager to see if a match can be made, the Bennets bring their daughters Elizabeth (Keira Knightley) and Jane (Rosamund Pike) to a ball thrown by their new neighbor to see if sparks will fly. Jane seems to like Charles, and he appears to feel the same, but Elizabeth takes an immediate dislike to Darcy (Matthew Macfadyen), Charles' egocentric best friend. While Elizabeth is infatuated with military man Lt. Wickham (Rupert Friend) and finds herself courted by William Collins (Tom Hollander), a well-meaning but drab man of the cloth, fate causes Elizabeth and Darcy to frequently cross paths, and while they don't care for one another, they can't stop thinking about each other, either. Pride & Prejudice also stars Jena Malone, Judi Dench, and Penelope Wilton.

Pretty sure if most women had a guy like Mr. Darcy the divorce rate would be a lot lower.

It's that trench coat....so sexy!
As a girl looking at all of these, "There aren't men like this" posts... I can't help be reminded how many of them are likely written by girls who have had men they have friend-zoned because they were not what they were looking for. Usually it's because they want a "bad boy" or they want someone who is already successful and rich. Not every man can be a rich lord of the manner, ladies. If you put your value in kindness and sincerity - you will be rewarded. I'm fortunate enough to have a fiance whose relationship was fostered from a friendship and compassion. Neither of us was really looking, but he realized one day that I was the one he couldn't live without and after being friends in high-school, time apart, and 2 years after reconnecting( where I was terrified to let him in close because he wasn't what I thought I needed) I finally agreed to go on a date. That was the best risk I ever took, as he has been my most valuable asset. But it was my witt, honesty, and sharp mind that won him - not beauty. So stop friendzoning men because they're "boring" or too nice. That is where the good men have gone, and you only have yourselves to blame in most instances. (not all).

Loving Mr. Darcy, is just liking a novel. I completely agree with Enrico´s standpoint. Can´t be rigid or too flexible, just sensible.

"My affections and wishes have not changed. But one word from you will silence me forever." THAT is how you handle rejection! You accept the other person's decision and don't get all mad or creepy stalkery on them after they turn you down. Please God, we need more Darcys in the world.

To see him walking up made me feel like I was standing there myself. Like Daaaaang. Then his words....oh Mr. Darcy. This actor isnt the most handsome feller (to me) but his presence and voice is like WOW. I love this scene so much.

Yes! Lol I love him in other stuff, but Darcy's the only character of his that I actually find "attractive"
Cris Vazquez
Mary Vee But his voice and his acting makes him so attractive even if he isn't hot but my god he is lovely 😍

There's something about the fact that they don't kiss that makes me feel as if this is REAL romance. Screw those "romantic" movies with people slopping all over each other...

+Sonica Milton Oh my, don't get me wrong, I LOOOOVE the US ending. <3 I'm talking specifically about this scene. I like that they didn't go straight to a passionate kiss after declaring love for each other. If anything, they got married first THEN kissed. Idk, I just find it very sweet. ^_^
Exactly what I was thinking!

doesn't he look like he's about to sneeze? That kind of ruined it for me :(
My mom took me to watch this when it first came out in 2005 but I was a fifth grader and didn't really understand what was going on but I grew up thinking I didn't like it. Then at the end of last year (2014), I decided to rewatch it and OH MY GOD, it's amazing! I can see why my 11 year old self didn't get it but now... Now that I can understand the older English style of speaking and what's actually being said, I can't get enough of this movie.
