Significance of hybridisation
In this lesson, we will try to find the answer of most intriguing question why Carbon has to undergo hybridisation at the first place? Why not atomic orbitals directly go into bond formation? What makes hybridised orbitals more stable and thus stronger bond formation?
Larger lobe of hybridised orbitals are always bigger than individual s-orbital or the p-orbital. Its larger size signifies higher electron density resulting in stronger bond and compounds of lower potential energy.
