UPDATE: I crashed and totaled my cub! I have since rebuilt one from scratch with parts and spray painted it. I have a new video uploaded with the first flights after the rebuild here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h44CdP...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just bought my first rc model airplane, the HobbyZone Super Cub DSM RTF, and took it out to the East Valley Aviators airfield for the first flight. Initially, I was going to buy The Champ RTF, but got talked into this one at the store. A special thank you to Lin Andresen and Al Moulton from East Valley Aviators for taking the time to help me get it setup and checked it out before my first flight. It sounds like the extra $25 spent to get the Spektrum DX4e transmitter with the Cub kit will be well worth it. The older model has the same plane, but the transmitter that comes with it is not a 2.4 gHz transmitter and only has a slider for throttle on the left stick. This one will be much more versatile for other aircraft and the possible customization of the Super Cub with ailerons and such.

I couldn't have asked for a better first flight. Slight wind made it interesting for sure, and of course the pucker factor.....knowing you can't just hit a button to reset it if you crash. I have to say, the simulator I found for the Xbox is very good for what it is. RC-AirSim, which is downloadable from Xbox Live for a cool $2.50, is a great budget simulator. I still plan on getting something better for a sim, but that is mostly so I can practice with my actual transmitter and have access to many more planes and helicopters. I am a complete and total noob, but RC-AirSim really felt little to no different than the real thing today. Enjoy the video, and the Super Cub definitely has my stamp of approval for the beginners out there.
