About Mr. Beat Sommer As far back as he can remember Beat has been involved in education. Born and raised in Zurich, he followed the highly reputable classic Swiss state educational system. Interested in literature, linguistics and languages, Beat was lucky to have open-minded parents who believed in self-will. Motivated by his desire to “educate rather than lecture”, he started his career in education with the ambition to improve the model of teaching he had been given. Throughout his career in Brazil and Switzerland, Beat has tried to share his passion to accompany and inspire children in their learning process. Hand in hand with his wife Ursula with whom he has teamed up for the past 25 years in various educational environments, Beat has managed to bring about the major changes necessary to the development and the improvement of the schools he has been heading. He was always ready to take on new challenges. After three exhilarating years as a language teacher in Brazil, he was offered the major task of creating a girls boarding facility in the most famous Swiss school, the Lyceum Alpinum of Zuoz, which had boasted a ‘boys only’ tradition for 90 years.
