The young artists who participated in this project that I facilitated arrived each Sunday for four months to painstakingly piece together their design for a 7ft cross; a garden and labyrinth to represent their community, symbols for communion and baptism to represent their church, and a sun and the Chi Rho symbol to represent God. It is a testament to the creativity, optimism, and faith of these young people despite their constant exposure to shootings, break-ins, drugs, and gangs. The mosaic is permanently displayed where it was created, at Amazing Grace Lutheran Church in Baltimore, Maryland.
