Dean Ornish: "Anytime you can focus your awareness, it's more pleasurable, whether it's food or sex or music or art or massage, when you pay attention to it, it's a lot more pleasurable.
In the case of food, for example, I can eat mindfully by paying attention to what I eat. On the other hand, I can eat mindlessly...and I look down and the plate's empty and I say, 'Who ate that?' I had all of the calories and none of the pleasure.
Whatever you do, when you pay attention to it sometimes called mindfulness, you enjoy it more fully and you don't need as much of it. You don't have to get the extra calories that can cause you to gain weight."
