Lee Strasberg as Hyman Roth, a character based on real life gangster Meyer Lansky, stands at the perfect intersection of actor, role and inspiration in Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather Part II. For his troubles, Strasberg received an Academy Award nomination for best supporting actor as well as a phone call from Lansky himself, who apparently liked the portrayal as much as we did. And watching Strasberg again, all quiet fury as he explains the parameters of organized crime to a newly ascendant Michael Corleone, still sends chills up our spine. And so it stands, a great actor in a great film delivering a great performance for the ages.
