A Brooklyn Park man is preparing a huge thanksgiving feast. Wagner's Drive In is known for its burgers and malts, but this time around they're serving up something else.
"Turkey, ham, mash potatoes, gravy, dressing, yams, vegetables, and then we do a salad," said owner Jim Wagner.
He will spend much of today and Thanksgiving morning, preparing a huge feast. The meal is for sick children and their families, and staff, at the University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital.
"We do 200 to 300, somewhere in that ballpark," said Wagner.
He's teaming up with a non–profit called, "Blair's Tree of Hope."
"They had a daughter that had leukemia, they need the bone marrow transplant," said Wagner.
Blair lost her battle with cancer in March of 2007. The organization that's named after her, provides comfort to families with loved ones in the hospital.
For 8 years Wagner has prepared the holiday meals. For him this is an act of love.
"I know what it's like to be there. I'm the one that was laying in the bed, waiting for the procedures that needed to be done for me," he said.
He's an organ transplant recipient. This is his way of paying it forward.
"I very thankful. I'm still here."
