Video Trains Pigeons To Eat

Elisa Ching, proprietor of 988 Modern Hair in Calgary, AB and my friend, had two pigeons fall from a nest above the entrance to her residence onto her doorstep (not quite straight down: they were nesting in a break in the facade beside the entrance, two stories up. I located the nest site and concluded that it was no longer serviceable, although I used somewhat more colloquial language upon this discovery.) This isn't the very first video I took of them, and based both on memory and review, I do believe that the tentative bites they took here was the first time they _ever_ ate solid food. Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society had advised over the phone that they should pick up eating solids if they see other pigeons doing so. I had described them, mistakenly as it turned out, as fledgling pigeons. With no other live pigeons to hand, I realized that the safest option was to play my longest eye level pigeon feeding video, and to my pleasant surprise, it worked.
I did not know this at the time of the video, but after some research, I believe that these pigeons hatched on 2011 March 3 and March 4.
