AN exclusive day center of excellence, catering to the rehabilitation of Brain injured children suffering from CEREBRAL PALSY, came into existence as a treatment center in 1985. It was operating from a two roomed rented premises in P.E.C.H.S. Dr Ruby Abbasi, mother of Bilal who had C P At the age 2.5 yrs as a result of Viral Encephalitis, got trained at the BOBATH center in London UK in 1984 and started treating children, counseling parents on handling the child at home, and employing & training the local graduate therapists in the BOBATH techniques.

ALUMEED REHABILITATION ASSOCIATION (AURA) a non profit making NGO was formed by her and other like minded affected parents, doctors, trained therapists and social workers in 1989 which was registered with directorate of Social Welfare Sindh. It gained it's Tax Exemption Status in 1992 for the purpose of donation in Pakistan. For tax exempt donations in USA & UK, special arrangements have been made to collect them through our overseas Executive Vice President in Florida & Colchester near London.

AURA is now functioning out of a purpose built building in Gulistan -e - jauhar Karachi since the year 2000.Program tailored to the individual needs of these children are being offered in two shifts. This allows to cater for as many children as can be accommodated without compromising on the quality of the services.

Improving the life span and making it more meaningful for these Special Children and making day to day handling less of a burden for their Chosen Parents is what AURA is striving for, with the help of a group of very dedicated persons as Employees, Board members and our valuable DONORS, such as INFAQ Foundation who has been our continuous supporter since 1986.

CEREBRAL PALSY......FACTS versus COMMON BELIEFS .......in lay person's term it is called "paralysis of the brain" . It is defined as a non progressive condition as a result of cutting off oxygen supply to the Brain, during pregnancy, during delivery or during infancy. It is not hereditary nor is it contagious. Rarely there is more than one person in the family inflicted by this condition , which can be a sad coincidence. As a consequence of the trauma or injury to the Brain, complications such as Epileptic fits, visual impairment, hearing and speech problems are commonly found in them besides the physical and / mental disabilities. Although diagnosed as Cerebral Palsy, no two children suffer in the same way. therefore an individually tailored program is mandatory. Early diagnosis and early intervention are the two important factors which help in good prognosis and early recovery paving the path for a more meaningful life.
