George Galloway clashes with Hardcash producer over Channel 4's Undercover Mosque program
British Muslims have reacted with dismay and disgust to Channel 4's Undercover Mosque program, which claimed to expose extremism in British mosques. Muslims have complained that the film was deeply irresponsible and will only increase Islamophobia and racial hatred in this country.
The film has been denounced for focusing on a minority of extreme statements and blowing them out of all proportion, thus demonizing the entire Muslim community. It has also been condemned for its insinuation that British Muslims are being radicalized by Saudi Islam, when all the evidence points to the fact that they're being radicalized by British foreign policy. In a heated exchange on Press TV's the Real Deal program, David Henshaw, the producer who made Undercover Mosque, was challenged by host George Galloway MP. Galloway accused Henshaw of having a problem with Islam and Muslims and insulting them on the first day of Ramadan, as well as inciting non-Muslims against them. Henshaw said his film was just conveying the feelings of so-called moderate Muslims who believe their religion has been hijacked. The 11-minute exchange involved much finger-pointing and accusatory language and ended up with Galloway calling Henshaw a "hooligan".
