In the heart of the Sierra foothills, Railtown 1897 State Historic Park invites visitors to experience the thrill of traveling back in time to the era of steam railroading. Located about 135 miles east of San Francisco, the park is a unique treasure trove of preserved railroad buildings, equipment, locomotives and railroad cars.

Every Saturday and Sunday, April through October, ride behind a historic steam or diesel locomotive on a train trip through California's scenic Gold Country! Trains depart from the Railtown Depot on-the-hour 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

One of the highlights of a visit to Railtown 1897 is a guided walking tour of the Park's authentic, working railroad roundhouse. Guests experience the locomotive repair area and view historic locomotives and cars in storage or undergoing repairs. You will have an opportunity to view movie props and other artifacts used in the production of feature films, TV shows, and commercials.

For operating hours and ticket information, call (209) 984-3953 or visit our website at www.railtown1897.org.
